**********

a couple was driving their way home from an anniversary date.
the guy noticed his girl was so quiet the whole night.

he pulled over to give his anniversary gift. from his pocket,
he got a small envelope ,handed it to her and kissed
her in the cheeks.

the girl didn’t say anything. the guy surprised, asked his girl
if everything was ok. the girl started crying quietly.

worried, the guy hugged his girl and said "what is it i can do
to make feel better?".

the girl whispered " i want my freedom back".

the guy was stunned and both of them were quiet for a few minutes.
the guy started the engine and said " ill drive you home. Lets talk
about this tomorrow. you're probably just tired".

Girl: there wont be anything to talk about tomorrow. I want my freedom
back. I don’t love anymore. I’m sorry. I can get off from here.

The girl returned the small envelop and said "I guess it wouldn't make any sense if i read your letter now". The guy replied "you can keep it...please do.."

The guy dropped his ex off and drove to his place...he was so depressed that he wasnt able to concentrate on his driving so his car collided with a truck. he was sent to the hospital and was declared dead on arrival.

after the funeral, the girl was struck by guilt and was so depressed.
a few days after, she found the envelop given by her ex.
she opened it and found a diamond ring with a message engraved on it..

ur luv kips me alive...

a muddy slope..

Ultimate mudslide

30 ml vodka
30 ml Kahlua® coffee liqueur
30 ml Bailey's® Irish cream
60 ml cream
60 ml milk
1 medium sized banana
5 ice cubes
grated chocolate

Place all ingredients, except grated chocolate, in a blender and
blend until smooth. Pour into glass and sprinkle with grated chocolate.

***top it up with whipped cream (optional)

**************************

one of the greatest alcoholic inventions of all time is the coffee
liquor. Popularly known brand "Kahlua", has a quick bitter zing,
almost wickedly sweet. Made by exposing the spirits of vodka
to golden roast coffee, vanilla bean and sugar. having it
placed in a tightly-sealed bottle makes the spirit
seep in the beans to bring out a rich-tasting flavor.

It was nice to have encountered this extraordinary that has
has been tickling my tastebuds for years. it brought my obsession
for coffee and liquor in to a different life.Because of this, i was
able to link my love for alcohol to my other obsession.

I love coffee...(regardless of the brand).
If i have a few extra bucks, ill go to starbucks.
If im out of bucks, i stick to nescafe freeze.
I do not make a living statement out of drinking it.

I drink coffee because it gives me the spike that i need to keep me
up all night finishing the things that i have been doing everyday for
the last 2 years. not because i am putting up a "trendy lifestyle" by
doing a sip-a-minute of my caramel frap just to be able to spend the
wee hours of the day in starbucks.

I go to starbucks because i want to give myself a treat after a hard
day's work, or because i want a good conversation with my friends
over coffee. Not because i want my ears to be tickled as the barista
calls the "name" that i invented, wishing that was really my own name.

I order a caramel macchiato because i want to have a shot of
espresso and scalded milk on a cold night. Not because its something
new to my ears and i want to practice my twang just to end up
pronouncing macchiato as "mochiatow" or cappuccino as "cup of chino".

i get a few sheets of table napkin and bags of brown sugar because
when iwant to make my drink a bit sweeter and keep my lips
and hands dry and free from coffee stains. Not because I want to
have them "to go" and use them at home or to wipe my face when I’m
sweating like a dog...a price that others have to pay for trying hard to
fit in...

COFFEE...and the drink that started the trend....
the brand that introduced the wicked lifestyle...
hypocrisy...pretentions..delusions...
all just for a sip to that green straw that says.."I belong!"

hehehe..that’s too much dose of sarcasm for the day. ill reserve it for tomorrow.

a splash of stale vodka

my weekend was so tiring. sleepless, i had to meet up with my buds at starbucks metrowalk for a quick bonding. damn! its been 5 months since we last went out. while waiting for alvin, we went to the videoke booth and belted out a few tones. we went to the canteen and ate lechon manok and grilled liempo. it was getting late and we're running out of options... so i decided to have my friends crash into my place, since they haven't seen my place since i moved dec 2007. we're supposed to buy ice and consume the beer that i have from the last party at my crib.

we took a cab to c5 and stayed at my place a bit. i had to check my fridge to find something they could eat. nothing was there except cookies, loacker and the cake we bought 2 days prior. a few slices of tiramisu overmelt.. (yum yum). a few sticks of cig and a few comments bout my crib and we went to pier 1. that was around 1 am. we had sisig, extra joss, a tower of beer, blueberry and strawberry vodka cruisers and weng weng. NO DAIQUIRIS...but itwas ok.

we experimented on the drinks that we had (extra joss and the beer, the vodka cruisers and the weng weng) and surprisingly enjoyed the good mixes we talked bout lot of things (thats our talent, talking about anything under the sun). a few hours after, chacha was already saying a lot of things, and carisse is a bit bored and sleepy. we decided to head back to camp.

we stopped at ministop and got some cofee chicken , dumplings and noodles. chacha has been blabbering non-stop and has been annoying the hell out of ella so we had her change her clothes and hit the sack. by 6am, everyone has been snoring. i woke alvin up so he can prepare to go home to Bulacan as it was mother's day then. carisse woke up 730 am and was supposed to leave early, but ended up staying until 1130 am with cha and ella watching "LAUGHTRIP" i mean, "EUROTRIP".

a few minutes after they left...i was strucked by mixed emotions..sad that we only have limited time for each other..and happy as we can still bond and make each and everyone feel that there is still place for all of us..inside the pretty fucked up selves of ours...i thought of an old alcoholic man, who despite the bottles of liquor that lavished his tastebuds, his throat still has a place for a splash of stale vodka. the the very first one that quenched his thirst and uplifted his spirit..

-kim: jackass!!! lets have coffee some time...
-ius: you still owe me a lot of stories. i miss the serious times.
-berna: ok..im cutting you some slack.
just let meknow when we can have coffee

as i checked my old stuff looking for my ITR, i came across articles that i cut out from a newspaper a couple of years ago. these articles used to..and...uhh...continue to give me goose bumps whenever i read them

Article 1: MOONLIGHT DRIVE

coreen was a senior transfer student at a school in Augusta, Maine. being the only child and a virgin, she used to do a lot of things with her parents: malling, fancy dining, sundae treats, biking, watching movies and other things friendless nerds would do. luckily, unlike what was expected, she didn’t have any problems fitting in to a good crowd. she easily blended in and became friends with the school's bitches, (varsity cheerleaders) and became very close to the mother whore(cheer captain) patty.

one time at the gym, the mother whore caught the nerdy virgin checking out on jake (the varsity quarterback). the bitch then told her that jake was well hung and if she wants hookup with him, she needs to go to the party on friday night. being an inexperienced virgin who cant control her libido, she gave in and said that she will just make an excuse for her parents to permit her.

having known their kid as very open and honest, coreen's poor parents immediately gave her the permission to spend the night at patty's place to do their "physics project", although her mom got so emotional because this will be the first time their daughter will miss the "movie house friday" bonding, she still… with all trust and stupidity, permitted their daughter to go.

the rumor spread like fart in a warm room and it didn’t take long before jake smelled/knew that coreen was a virgin.(i meant that she had a crush on him). so he went to the party and decided to nail, i mean accompany coreen.

Everything was perfect, nice crowd, music, finger food, and the company of her crush..coreen never got this "excited" before. they went to the bar and jake offered her something to drink(to make her tipsy and warm inside) hehehe...being a doll and all, she let jake decide. he ordered her a Sea Breeze. (and as expected, he asked the bartender to double up the measure of vodka in the drink and hide it by adding a tablespoon of sugar syrup). 2 rounds later, she came.......

...to a point that she wanted more, but decided to play tipsy. Jake grinned...and asked coreen if she wants to have a dose some fresh air. they both decided to have a moonlight drive.(coreen chuckled because jake thought his game was all set. he never knew that coreen used to drink her grandfather’s brandy and whiskey collection, straight up, when her parents are not around)

jake already had heroin that time, and was so stoned. inside the car, he started kissing coreen, and being a virgin, didn’t like what he was doing to her, so she tried to stop him. jake, disappointed and dissatisfied stepped into the gas and increased their speed. Coreen was frightened and asked him to stop and let her get off. this aggravated jake further so he went on. for some stupid reasoning she had in her head, coreen decided to distract jake by taking the steering wheel off his hand. as expected, the car collided with the vehicle in front of them.

***NOW HERE IS THE SERIOUS AND NUMBING PART....

coreen woke up a day after the accident. she saw her nurse talking to the other nurses and overheard that the driver was dead on a arrival. the passengers of the other car died too.

the doctor, confirmed the bad news to coreen. this made her cry especially when the doctor said that she has a few days left. as a tradition, the doctor asked her if she has a death wish. Coreen with all her strength asked the doctor to do one thing. Apologize to her parents for her as she lied to them. this was her first time to lie and she felt so bad about it. she also wanted to apologize to jake's parents, for if it wasn’t for her, he would still be alive.

coreen died a few days after. the doctor had to attend the funeral. patty who overheard, the doctor's conversation with coreen before she died confronted him during the funeral. She asked him why didn’t he grant Coreen's death wish. She was so sad and fell into tears. after a moment of silence, just as the four coffins were being brought down the grave, the doctor just said...

" i cant grant her wishes. for one, Jake was abandoned by his dad a long time ago. He lives alone as the only relative he has, his aunt who is in Montreal. For Coreen, definitely, there is no way for me to apologize for her as her parents were the ones in the other car."

that ending gave me goose bumps. but made it worse was the note from the author:

****notice that there are four coffins brought down the grave...that was because the father who left jake when he was little was coreen's dad. It was discovered as Jake's aunt, (sister of coreen's dad came in a day before the funeral).

i guess i've used a lot of words for the first story...ill just have the second article on my next post.

shakes have been part of my childhood. my dad worked in the middle east so he used to pester my mom about a lot of things: our studies, extra curricular activities, especially the food that we eat. i remember when 7-eleven introduced their "Slurpee" which drove me and the other kids my age crazy about this frozen cola that gives you the "brainfreeze". for some reason, this changed my eating habits and was eventually brought to my dad's attention. one saturday morning, we received individual letters from my dad. one line in that letter said:

"I ASKED YOUR ATE TO BUY SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE YOU GO HOME EARLY AFTER CLASS"

that afternoon, Ate (my mom) and i went to automatic center (cubao) to buy a blender. we went to farmer's market and bought some fruits right after. That night, i had my first meeting with mango-banana shake. the time just stopped. until my sixth grade, im wondering what fruit shake will my mom prepare for lunch.

high school senior year, i was introduced to mocha frappe. that started my caffeine addiction. The one good thing that helped me cope with the stress of the graveyard shift. a very expensive part of teenage lifestyle. i can still remember that one coñotic friend used to say, "the coffee that you drink, are like the clothes that you wear". (did she mean: "for you to look like a yuppie, drink starbucks frappe...but remember to sip just a little at a time..so you can stay longer in the coffee shop"). The last time i heard, she still always spends her time in starbucks, waiting for friends/officemates who she texted and aksed to give her a treat of her favorite...a grande mocha frappe.

then came the point where my belly was oriented on its other purpose. that time he met the bitter but soothing taste of ice-cold beer. Then came the gin, and rum… and brandy…then vodka. i learned that the chaser can be any drink that you take after a straight shot. that a dash of cigarette ash on your drink will knock you out on the first round.

for the longest time, i was looking for a different taste…a taste aside from a gulp of chaser, mule or vodka cruiser. something really cold and refreshing… something that would knock me down hard without leaving me that bloated feeling. after a few months of thirst for something good, my friend jd (a bartender) to his newest addiction…MIXOLOGY. I then rediscovered one of the greatest inventions of man…the DAIQUIRI…and the rest was history.

  • i still love to stop by 7-eleven to buy a large slurpee
  • my good friend kim irish manapat made me realize that “extra joss” goes well with beer.
